X-Ray

Mittagong Medical Imaging offers a broad range of general and specialised X-ray examinations using advanced digital imaging equipment. X-ray imaging is a quick and reliable diagnostic tool used to assess bones, joints and certain soft tissues, assisting doctors in diagnosing fractures, injuries and a variety of medical conditions.

X-rays use a low dose of radiation to produce detailed images of internal structures. Dense areas such as bones appear clearly, helping clinicians accurately evaluate the area of concern. Depending on the type of examination, images may be taken while you are standing, seated or lying down. The procedure is fast and painless, although brief positioning adjustments may cause mild, temporary discomfort.

A valid referral from your healthcare provider is required for all X-ray examinations.

FAQs

In most cases, appointments are not required for standard X-ray examinations. Patients are welcome to attend during clinic hours with a valid referral. Please note that waiting times may vary depending on patient volume.

Generally, no special preparation is needed. However:

  • You may be asked to remove jewellery, watches or other metallic items
  • Wearing loose clothing without metal fastenings is recommended
  • For some examinations, you may be asked to change into a gown

If your specific scan requires preparation, our team will provide clear instructions beforehand.

Please bring:

  • Your doctor’s referral
  • Medicare or DVA card (if applicable)
  • WorkCover or insurance details if related to a workplace injury

A qualified radiographer will explain the procedure and position you correctly to obtain clear diagnostic images. You may be asked to adjust your position briefly to capture different views. The imaging itself takes only a few minutes.

Once completed, the images are reviewed by a radiologist, and a detailed report is sent directly to your referring practitioner.

Most Medicare-eligible X-ray services are bulk billed. If there are any potential out-of-pocket expenses, our staff will inform you prior to proceeding with the examination.

Reports are typically finalised within 24–48 hours. Urgent referrals can be prioritised — please inform our reception team if your doctor has marked the request as urgent.
